Sustainable sleep and hydration habits for 2026

SHARE POST:

Over the past two weeks we have discussed prioritising real food, managing blood sugar and choosing gentle and consistent movement as part of being able to make sustainable changes for the year ahead.

This week we discuss the importance of sleep and hydration as another two important principles for optimal wellbeing.

Prioritise healthy sleep

Sleep is important for our hormonal balance, mood, weight, blood sugar metabolism, brain function and inflammation. Nothing can replace our need for deep rest, so our sleep is vital for optimal self-care. Aim for 7–9 hours every night. Keep a regular sleep / wake time and limit screens and over-stimulation at night.

Increase water intake

If you aren’t a great water drinker start by drinking a glass every hour until you’re getting to 6–8 glasses water per day. You can add fresh fruit or cucumber, mint, or lemon to infuse the water if you need some flavour. Herbal teas can also be consumed and count as water if they are taken without milk and sugar. Reduce your intake of sugary drinks and sodas.
