Parasites are organisms that need a host to live, grow, multiply and survive.
Parasites are seldom friendly. Parasites are not likely to kill the host, but they reproduce very quickly so if left unchecked, can cause some very unpleasant symptoms and, in some cases, diseases that can be fatal.
Parasites vary in variety and are usually smaller than their host, in fact many are microscopic, although some can be very large and visible to the naked eye.
Some symptoms of a parasitic infection include:
- Skin bumps or rashes
- Weight loss
- Abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhoea
- Sleep disturbances
- Anaemia
- Aches and pains
- Weakness
- Generally feeling unwell
- Fever
We are exposed to parasites everywhere. The foods we eat, our animals, working in the garden, swimming in dams and rivers, travelling to foreign countries, etc. can all be ways to pick up parasites.
Washing vegetables, drinking water from pure sources, and avoiding raw meat helps to alleviate the risk of an increased parasitic load.
Herbal remedies such as black walnut, wormwood, oregano oil, olive leaf extract, garlic and grapefruit seed extract can all be effective ways to alleviate a parasitic infection.
Since parasites thrive on bad bacteria and unfriendly yeasts in the body, it’s essential to kill those off at the same time. Avoiding sugar, refined carbohydrates and grains is essential for an effective treatment. In some people, it may even be necessary to avoid fruit while doing a parasite cleanse.
Many foods have anti-parasitic qualities, so I recommend increasing foods such as:
- Garlic and onions
- Herbs such as oregano and ginger
- Pawpaw juice and pips
- Coconut oil
- Fermented foods such as kefir, sauerkraut, kombucha
Eating pumpkin seeds is also a very effective way to kill off parasites. About 1 cup spread over the day is sufficient.
The lifecycle of parasites is cyclical so many people benefit from doing a parasite cleanse in time with the phases of the moon and over at least 28 days.
Parasites reproduce more around the full moon because the body produces less serotonin and melatonin at those times. In order to eliminate the parasites effectively the adults, new parasites and eggs need to be killed. When doing parasite cleanses with my clients I will often start them on a remedy for 5 days, then stop for 5 days to wait for the babies to grow and the eggs to hatch and then complete the cleanse over the next few weeks.
