Safer alternatives to energy drinks

SHARE POST:

Mushroom drinks can be a safer and healthier alternative to energy drinks, especially if you choose the right kind. They offer a gentle, natural boost to energy, focus and wellbeing without the crash, overstimulation, or health risks of energy drinks.

This podcast discusses why mushroom drinks may be a better option as well as the health benefits that they offer.

Gentle, balanced energy

Mushrooms like cordyceps and lion’s mane support:

  • Natural energy (without a caffeine spike)
  • Improved endurance
  • Sustained mental focus

Support brain and nerve health

Lion’s mane promotes the growth of nerve cells which can be helpful for memory and concentration as well as mod balance. Mushrooms can also be neuroprotective.

Adaptogenic benefits

Mushrooms like reishi, chaga, and turkey tail are adaptogens, which:

  • Help the body adapt to stress
  • Support the immune system
  • Reduce inflammation

Lower in sugar and caffeine

  • Most mushroom drinks contain little to no sugar.
  • Many are caffeine-free or use low caffeine sources like green tea or yerba mate.
  • Less risk of blood sugar spikes, jitters or crashes, heart palpitations or sleep disturbances

Whole-body wellness

Functional mushrooms contain antioxidants, prebiotic fiber which is good for gut health, and anti-inflammatory compounds.

Not all mushroom drinks are created equal so be sure to:

  • Choose organic, third-party tested products
  • Look for fruiting body extracts (not just mycelium on grain)
  • Avoid overly sweetened or artificially flavored versions
  • Check for caffeine content if you’re sensitive

Other safer alternatives to boost energy naturally include:

  • Green tea or matcha (moderate caffeine + antioxidants)
  • Hydrating with water + electrolytes
  • Short naps or light exercise for natural energy boosts
  • Lifestyle adjustments to reduce stress and to slow down
