Heart Rhythm – Part 3

SHARE POST:

This podcast is a continuation of last weeks discussion on how diet and lifestyle can play a significant role in managing and potentially improving problems associated with our heart rhythm.

The following behaviours can be helpful in maintaining optimal heart health:

Limiting Stimulants

  • Caffeine and alcohol can trigger or worsen arrhythmias in some individuals. Limit the intake of caffeinated beverages and alcoholic drinks.

Ensuring Proper Hydration

  • Proper hydration is crucial for maintaining electrolyte balance and supporting overall heart function. Drink plenty of water and avoid excessive consumption of dehydrating beverages like alcohol and caffeinated drinks.

Eating Antioxidant-rich Foods

  • Antioxidants help protect the heart from oxidative stress and damage. Include a variety of colourful fruits and vegetables in your diet, such as berries, citrus fruits, and leafy greens.

Including Omega-3 Fatty Acids

  • Omega-3s, found in fatty fish (such as salmon and mackerel), flaxseeds, and walnuts, have been shown to reduce the risk of arrhythmias and improve heart health.

A heart-healthy diet that emphasizes whole, nutrient-dense foods and minimizes processed and high-sodium items can help manage and potentially improve heart rhythm problems. Making these dietary changes, along with regular medical care and lifestyle adjustments, can significantly benefit individuals with arrhythmias.
